Mayor Adams wants Portland bridge toll ban repealed

PORTLAND, Ore. -- Mayor Sam Adams is pushing state lawmakers to lift a ban on toll bridges in Portland.
Right now Multnomah County is the only county in Oregon that cannot enforce tolls on any of its bridges.
“No plans at this point to do tolling on the Willamette River bridges, but it does highlight the fact that on the Sellwood Bridge we have a safety rating of 2 out of 100,” Mayor Adams said.
The money generated by tolls could be used to pay for repairs on the Sellwood Bridge, among others, the mayor said.
“It is premature. It would depend on when and where. I certainly wouldn’t do it in this recession, absolutely not,” added the mayor.
Drivers were not too keen on the idea.
